Well I just upgraded my laptop, it is a Dell (Blech!) but it is all I have so I have to deal with it. I just added some Crucial RAM running at 667 MHz, it has an Intel Core-Duo T2300, each processor running at 1.66 GHz, not extremely fast, but not bad. I am thinking about switching the system to Linux right now or Vista. Not sure which I want to go with but I upgraded the RAM in case I decide to go with Vista because Vista is such a memory hog! Anyways, nothing special about my laptop or my desktop for that matter, but I work with what I have to work with, right?! So tell me about your systems!

ubuntu will probably suit well - and you could always go for a dual boot system (but I'd use XP, because VIsta has some complicated issues with the way it handles the Hard disk -
Best option, I think, is to install XP first, then Ubuntu as dualboot Disable internet in XP for a virus free system Use ubuntu for everything on net.

I am running a pretty sweet setup right now! A Dell XPS that is crazy fast, 64-bit version of Vista with 8 GB of RAM, two Quad-Core CPU's and a 15000 RPM Main drive at 200 GB with two additional drives at 7200 RPM 1 TB each.

I am running a home built system using a Pentium D 930 running at 3.0GHz on an Intel Mobo with 2Gig of 800 RAM. Hard drive storage is 2 x 250Gb (Western Digital drives). O/S is Windows XP Pro with Ubuntu running on Virtual PC 2007

So I've got to ask Athelstan, coming from the hardware world, how hard would it be for me to do a dual-boot on my laptop, I have two separate hard drives, so I could easily take one of the two and reformat/partition it, and what would your recommendation be for that?

The dual booting of a system, on a notebook or a tower unit, is not really a hardware problem but a software configuration task. The only real hardware consideration is the hard drive size ie having enough disc space to allocate to each operating system. A good article on how to configure an existing XP installation is given here dual boot XP and Ubuntu. Personally I have great faith in XP and just run Ubuntu in a virtual enviroment on a separate monitor.... well it works for me as I can switch between the two without rebooting.
